About Us
Irish poet W.B. Yeats believed the hazel wood tree was the Celtic variation of the tree of life. In his poem, The Song of the Wandering Aengus, he writes of the hazel wood (a forest of hazel trees) as a mythical place, which is, like childhood, filled with wonder and enchantment.
This was the first poem my young son ever heard. My husband recited it to him so often, that as soon as he began to speak, he was finishing every line of the poem. In this family ritual, the seeds of Hazel Wood Children were sown.

As a new mother with a background in design, I avidly searched for products that spoke
of beauty and the human connection to nature; I wanted them to embody elements I wished
to instill in my child so that he would learn to embrace values of aesthetic beauty,
the inspiration and sustainability of nature, and ethics that correspond to both.
I ventured upon a paltry few items that met my criteria, but found myself asking why
it is that such products scarcely exist. When they do, they are most often made for adults, and not children.
"our choices as parents have a tremendous influence on the way our children will eventually see the world”
When you consider it, our choices as parents have a tremendous influence on the way our children
will eventually see the world. Again and again I asked myself, isn’t it even more important
to surround a child with such beauty? Why not nurture these values in every way possible, rather than
settle for the plastic and ordinary? The Hazel Wood Children collection began with a few exceptional
items I discovered while shopping for my son; it has since grown to contain the exquisite objects
herein included. It will continue to expand as I discover and support new designers and artists
and the artistry they represent. These selections meet the highest standard of quality available,
while maintaining a commitment to beauty and health as well as environmental and social consciousness.
They are products by designers whose muses are their own children and whose visions embody the entirety
of nature itself. This is the philosophy that determines the exquisite products I offer you; a philosophy
inspired by Yeats’ tree of life.
