Argington

One day in 2002, when designers and founders, Jenny Argie and Andrew Thornton learned they were expecting their first child, they fused their backgrounds in fine art and architecture to create Argington: a modern children’s furniture company based in Brooklyn, NY.

On that day they immediately began sketching and building furniture they believed would inspire their child's growth and imagination. In The Wonders Collection, for example, each piece of furniture is named after one of the listed wonders of the world. A hangtag is attached to each piece featuring text and imagery that teaches the reader (parent) and the listener (child) about the most fascinating architecture and scientific phenomenon ever recorded. The Ayres Twin Bed, for example, features a tag that reads as follows: "On the bottom of the Earth, in the center of Australia, the world's biggest rock sticks out of the ground.

"instills the pleasure of learning in the most tender of all places: the home"

At different times of the year and at different times of the day, the 2,843 foot Ayres Rock changes color and glows with light reflected from the sun." As such, the designs inspire family ritual and give the furniture a scope beyond its functionality. The furniture places the global community within a child’s reach and inspires dreams of far off destinations; it instills the pleasure of learning in the most tender of all places: the home. Further, the furniture embodies a clean, simple and tasteful design aesthetic. Their furniture is designed with longevity and reusability as an essential criterion. They do this by offering adjustable seating that grows with your child, table tops that are reusable and also are adjustable, cribs that convert to toddler beds, space saving trundle beds, and storage solutions that are multifunctional and adaptable to a myriad of styles and conditions. Designs are crafted to be timeless and can easily be passed from one child to the next.

Most importantly, it has low environmental impact because the manufactured designs rely on fast growing wood from managed forests, along with non-toxic finishes and glues. At Argington, each design is part of a bigger picture in more ways than one.
