Kageno (coming soon)

Kageno means A Place of Hope, in Dholuo, a Kenyan dialect. Kageno is a not-for-profit organization that strives to transform communities suffering from inhumane poverty into places of opportunity and hope by identifying and delivering actionable programs. Kageno builds Innovative Community Centers that provide access to clean water, sanitation and health care, and programs that provide education and skills for income generation. Existing programs are in Rusinga Island (Lake Victoria), Kenya and Banda Village (Nyungwe National Forest), Rwanda.

Kageno Kids has collaborated with Hazel Wood Children on an exclusive series of framed original fine art created by the children in these African communities.

"To give you
& your child a shared, better
understanding of children’s lives all over the world ”

To give you and your child a shared, better understanding of children’s lives all over the world and a direct connection to the individual child that created the piece, descriptive details on the artist, theme of project and materials used will be included with the art. Half of the proceeds will go directly to Kageno Kids. Currently in development are fine exclusive designs from Kageno Women’s Project, crucial to the area's success in fighting AIDS and women's exploitation.

Kageno views development as a combination of capitalistic ventures and community resource-building. Bundling business and development creates opportunities and incentives for people to move from survival tactics to productive work. Local people will produce and market products (crafts and tourism) that channels capital into their community's future: education, environment, business, and healthcare. The success of this business-centric development model will be determined by the ability to market each community's services to the world.

Hope!

By building a matrix of interdependent programs that share resources and synergistic elements, the Income-Generating Activities (IGAs) will transfer skills while providing staff salaries and will fund our community-driven (not-for profit) programs. In return, the community-driven programs will establish a baseline of better health, sanitation, and environment while creating a more conducive environment to learn and work. This process is implemented through the utilization of renewable resources (reforestation, profit-making enterprises, solar power, water purification system, etc.) that the community group can use effortlessly to both maintain and grow the community project. Clean drinking water and constructed latrines will prevent endemic diseases that result in nagging illnesses and exacerbate effects the HIV/AIDS virus.

By supporting Kageno Kids, you will be directly affecting the lives of people living in these communities, giving them hope and opportunity.
