Kiwi Industries

After a family vacation in New Zealand where walking was the desired and primary source of transportation; where clothes were naturally dried on the line; where invented games spontaneously spun into adventures; where collecting sea urchins in a tidal pool, or snails under a neighborhood Ponga tree became daily rituals, founder Becky Grebosky, her husband and their two toddler sons returned to the stress of the packed schedules and rushed errands that surrounded their modern conveniences.

They soon realized that what they left behind was not only a beautiful country; it was a lifestyle reminiscent of a past where the pursuit of material “things” such as “throw away” clothing, had not yet replaced the delight of “free time.”

"a lifestyle reminiscent of a past ...”

Kiwi Industries is about capturing this past time by producing comfortable, yet classic, children’s clothing sewn from natural, organic, or recycled fibers with hand-crafted details. They use only high quality fabric that gets softer and softer with wear. It becomes more comfortable with time and more easily passed from child to child.

Kiwi also believes in supporting a sustainable environment. This means using socially responsible (sweatshop free) manufacturing - all items are produced in the US at a women's cooperative that fosters skilled labor at a living wage and provides health benefits, childcare and language classes. They also strive to not waste resources by carefully selecting natural and organic fabrics and choosing packaging with recycled content.

Charm!

The flightless Kiwi, with its hair-like feathers and long, slender beak is so intrinsically woven into New Zealand’s social fabric that its name is almost more brand than bird. Found only in New Zealand, it is active at night in the wilderness areas of the country.
